Shaft
Shafts are 1-1/8” (3cm) longer than other Yamaha mallets*, which allows the mallets to exceed the demands required in contemporary music.
Head
The round yarn wound heads are heavier than standard mallets, but they are fully capable of delivering delicate expression. Also, to obtain optimum flexibility from the shaft, careful consideration has been taken in achieving optimum balance between weight and shaft thickness when materials to be used in each mallet model were chosen.
What Type Of Keiko Abe Mallet Suits You Best? 🤷
[MKA-01]: With the MKA-01 two-tone mallet, differences in touch are clearly apparent in the tone.
[MKA-02/03]: MKA-02 and MKA-03 utilise short shafts for fast, intricate mallet work. Hard to tell by looking, but the added weight in the mallet heads offers the percussionist greater possibilities in playing.
[MKA-04/05/06/07/S7]: The MKA-04 through S7 are based on Yamaha’s Professional series with a rubber tube wrapped around its core. This design offers a slightly different touch that delivers greater expressiveness with enhanced sensitivity.
[MKA-08/09] : The MKA-08 and 09 are designed to deliver greater tone from large rosewood tone bars at the bass end of the marimba.
Keiko Abe Profile
Appearing regularly in performances around the world, Keiko Abe continuously astonishes audiences with her rare combination of creative power, acute sensitivity and virtuoso technique. It is these qualities that have made her a leading force in the development of the marimba as a consummate concert instrument. Her command of an overwhelming repertoire allows her performances to range from solo concerts to chamber music and improvisations. While her compositions have become standards of marimba literature many composers have dedicated new works to her and she has inspired and premiered countless new compositions.
In addition to her work as Professor Emeritus of Music at Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo, Japan, she is in demand as a guest lecturer and has presented master classes in more than 100 of the leading music conservatories in North America, Europe and Asia. She has also released over 50 recordings and received numerous awards, including becoming the first woman elected to the Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame in 1993.

Most orders are dispatched via Australia Post or one of our courier partners, depending on the shipping service selected and your delivery location.
Please allow 1–2 business days for order processing, plus the estimated delivery timeframe for your selected shipping service. Delivery times may be longer for rural and remote areas.
Once your order has been dispatched, you'll receive a shipping confirmation by email. Where a tracked service has been selected, this will also include your tracking information.

Express Shipping is a fully tracked priority Express Service offered through Australia Post and Team Global Express. A tracking number will be provided once your order has been shipped. Please allow approximately 1–2 business days for metro areas and additional time for regional and remote destinations, including some areas of WA, NT and North QLD.
Standard Shipping is a fully tracked service offered through Australia Post. Tracking information will be provided once your order has been shipped. Please allow 2–6 business days for delivery of your order. NT and WA customers should allow approximately 6–8 business days.
Courier Shipping is available to most areas across Australia, with deliveries handled by CouriersPlease, Aramex, Team Global Express or another suitable courier partner, depending on your location. Please allow approximately 2–8 business days for delivery. Tracking information will be emailed to you once your order has been dispatched.
Economy Shipping (Untracked) is our low-cost economy option, sent via Australia Post using postage stamps — good old-fashioned snail mail. This service does not include tracking. You'll receive an email confirmation once your order has been dispatched from our warehouse, but no tracking number or delivery updates will be available.
Please allow approximately 5–12 business days for delivery. We do not recommend untracked shipping for time-sensitive orders; please select a tracked or Express service if you need your order by a particular date. Music2u will not replace missing items under the untracked Economy Shipping option.
Customer Pickup (South East Melbourne)
Customer pickup is available from our Dingley Village, Melbourne VIC 3172 location. Pickup orders are generally processed within 24 hours, Monday–Friday. Once your order is ready, you'll receive an email and text message with your unique parcel locker code. Your order can then be collected from the Music2u Parcel Box 24/7, at a time that suits you. Please wait until you receive your ‘Order Ready’ text/email before arriving to collect your order. Your order will not be available for collection before this notification has been sent.
If an item is unavailable or requires additional time to arrive, we'll contact you by phone or email. If you require an urgent pickup, please contact us before ordering so we can confirm the stock is available onsite.

Pre-Orders
If your order contains both in-stock and pre-order items, the in-stock items will be dispatched using the shipping method selected at checkout.
When a single pre-order book becomes available, it will generally be sent separately via untracked Australia Post at no additional shipping charge.
