Simon Fischer - Scales For Viola Book 📚
A Wonderful Array Of Studies & Exercises For Tuition
The "Scales For Viola Book" by Simon Fischer is a comprehensive guide designed to offer an in-depth look into the technique of scale playing for violists. Unlike traditional scale books that often focus solely on the execution of scales, this book employs an entirely new methodology aimed at enhancing various facets of a violist's technique.
Simon Fischer takes the conventional practices associated with scale learning as just a starting point and delves into often-overlooked aspects of viola playing. The book is replete with exercises that challenge the player's ear, engage the mind, and develop the physical aspects of playing the viola. Each exercise is carefully crafted to address specific elements such as intonation, bowing, string crossing, finger dexterity, and more.
In addition to fresh material, the book incorporates Fischer's well-known methods and exercises, targeting areas like intonation accuracy, smooth bow transitions, agile finger movements, and effective use of the fourth finger. It also includes practice methods for "placing fingers in blocks," a technique often used to facilitate more efficient finger positioning on the fingerboard.
The unique feature of this book is its wide-ranging content that continuously encourages players to rethink and refine their practice strategies. It offers a wealth of exercises that serve as a catalyst for skill development, making it suitable for violists across a broad spectrum of skill levels, from intermediate to professional. Overall, this book aims to be a transformative resource for violists, providing novel ways to approach the time-honoured practice of scales. 212 pages.
