Intermediate Jazz Conception Trombone Book and Online Audio

A must-have jazz study for trombonists ready to develop authentic style, swing feel and real improvisation skills with 15 Great Solo Etudes

Intermediate Jazz Conception for Trombone is a highly respected jazz study designed for developing players who want to move beyond theory and into authentic jazz style and improvisation. Written by Jim Snidero, this book is part of the renowned Jazz Conception series and is trusted by teachers, students and professional players worldwide.

The book features 15 carefully crafted solo etudes based on jazz standards, modal tunes and blues progressions. Each etude is demonstrated by acclaimed trombonist Steve Davis, supported by a world-class rhythm section including Dave Hazeltine on piano, Peter Washington on bass and Kenny Washington on drums. These performances provide a clear model of swing feel, phrasing, articulation and time.

A major strength of this edition is its extensive appendix devoted to style and improvisation. It includes a clear scales syllabus, jazz nomenclature, and over 95 extracted lines and ideas for focused improvisation study. These materials help players understand how jazz language works and how to apply it in real musical situations.

The accompanying online audio includes two versions of every etude: one with soloist and rhythm section, and one with rhythm section only. This allows students to listen, play along, or practise independently with a professional backing band. Ideal for advancing students, school and tertiary jazz programs, and self-motivated players. 56 pages.
