Ian Gammie – Genteel Waltz for Solo Guitar Classical Sheet Music

Level: Late Intermediate-Advanced

Duration: 7 minutes

A whimsical and expressive solo guitar waltz by Ian Gammie, blending lyrical melodies with a light Venezuelan influence for the advanced intermediate guitarist.

Genteel Waltz is a delightfully whimsical and sentimental solo guitar work by British guitarist and composer Ian Gammie. Written in 2021, the piece unfolds in ternary form through an engaging web of lyrical melodies, with a light stylistic influence from the Venezuelan waltzes of Antonio Lauro.

Gammie conceived the work during the COVID-19 period as a musical escape into whimsy and imagination, encouraging performers to approach the score with freedom of expression and to explore the naturally sonorous character of the guitar.

Marked Moderato, the piece combines expressive melodic writing, shifting positions, chordal textures and idiomatic classical guitar techniques. At approximately seven minutes, it offers a distinctive recital or study work for advancing classical guitarists looking to explore contemporary repertoire with warmth, character and melodic appeal.

Corda describes the work as a whimsical, sentimental network of melodies with a light influence from Venezuelan waltz style.
