COMMON QUESTIONS

What should I use to wet my reed?

It is best to use water to wet your reed. Be mindful to not leave it submerged in water for more than two minutes.

Can I store my reeds in the plastic reed holders that they came in?

Plastic reed holders protect the reeds before the box is opened by the purchaser, but they are designed to be used only for initial transport from factory to customer. It is always best to move the reeds to an air-tight reed storage system to protect the life of the reeds.

How should I break in my reeds?

D'Addario reeds are made of natural cane (Arundo Donax), so they need special attention during the first 3-5 days of use to allow the cane to adjust to the wetting and drying that occurs during normal playing. To break in your reeds, carefully follow the steps provided below.
1. Stabilising a reed’s humidity is very important. First, place a new box of reeds into a humidity storage case, like D'Addario's Reed Vitalizer, before playing them.
2. The next day, soak the reed in water for 30 seconds. Gently wipe off excess water on the vamp, table, and heel of the reed. Reeds can be played to begin the break-in process, but do not play more than five minutes per reed.
3. Wipe reeds clean of excess moisture and store in your airtight reed storage system along with a Reed Vitalizer Single Refill Pack. Reeds can be played a little longer each day after this step.
4. This break-in process has added benefits and can be incorporated into a normal warm up routine by players and ensembles of all levels.

What is the difference between traditional reed blanks and thick reed blanks?

Blank thickness relates to the thickness of the cane wall that a reed blank is cut from. A thicker blank reed will contain more cane wall material--you can physically see this at the heel of the reed. You may also be able to hear a tonal difference and physically feel a difference between various blank thicknesses.

Express Shipping is a fully tracked priority Express Service offered through Australia Post and Team Global Express. A tracking number will be provided once your order has been shipped. Please allow approximately 1–2 business days for metro areas and additional time for regional and remote destinations, including some areas of WA, NT and North QLD.

Standard Shipping is a fully tracked service offered through Australia Post. Tracking information will be provided once your order has been shipped. Please allow 2–6 business days for delivery of your order. NT and WA customers should allow approximately 6–8 business days.

Courier Shipping is available to most areas across Australia, with deliveries handled by CouriersPlease, Aramex, Team Global Express or another suitable courier partner, depending on your location. Please allow approximately 2–8 business days for delivery. Tracking information will be emailed to you once your order has been dispatched.

Economy Shipping (Untracked) is our low-cost economy option, sent via Australia Post using postage stamps — good old-fashioned snail mail. This service does not include tracking. You'll receive an email confirmation once your order has been dispatched from our warehouse, but no tracking number or delivery updates will be available.

Please allow approximately 5–12 business days for delivery. We do not recommend untracked shipping for time-sensitive orders; please select a tracked or Express service if you need your order by a particular date. Music2u will not replace missing items under the untracked Economy Shipping option.

Customer pickup is available from our Dingley Village, Melbourne VIC 3172 location. Pickup orders are generally processed within 24 hours, Monday–Friday. Once your order is ready, you'll receive an email and text message with your unique parcel locker code. Your order can then be collected from the Music2u Parcel Box 24/7, at a time that suits you. Please wait until you receive your ‘Order Ready’ text/email before arriving to collect your order. Your order will not be available for collection before this notification has been sent.

If an item is unavailable or requires additional time to arrive, we'll contact you by phone or email. If you require an urgent pickup, please contact us before ordering so we can confirm the stock is available onsite.
