J.S Bach - 6 Sonatas & Partitas Violin Book 📚
Explore The Profound & Timeless Music of Johann Sebastian Bach
The "J.S. Bach - 6 Sonatas & Partitas Violin Book" is a remarkable international edition, meticulously edited by the renowned Ivan Galamian. This musical treasure brings together Bach's masterful Sonatas and Partitas for violin, providing a glimpse into the historical significance of these extraordinary compositions.
In 1717, Bach embarked on a new journey as the conductor and director of chamber music for Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Cothen. During his six-year tenure, Bach focused predominantly on crafting secular, instrumental music for a select Chamber Orchestra of approximately 16 musicians. It was within this creative period that the 3 Sonatas and 3 Partitas for violin were born.
After Bach's passing, much of his illustrious work fell into obscurity. Surprisingly, the 6 Sonatas and Partitas remained hidden until 1814 when they were discovered amidst a stack of old papers in St. Petersburg, intended for use as wrappings in a butter shop. Fortunately, these musical gems were rescued from obscurity and have since become celebrated masterpieces in the violin repertoire.
This edition not only presents the masterfully edited scores by Ivan Galamian but also includes an invaluable historical foreword on the Sonatas and Partitas. Additionally, you will find a complete facsimile of Bach's own autographed manuscript, offering a glimpse into the mind of the genius composer.
With a total of 114 pages, this book provides violinists with an exceptional opportunity to explore the profound and timeless music of Johann Sebastian Bach. As you immerse yourself in the Sonatas and Partitas, you will uncover the richness and brilliance of Bach's craftsmanship, leaving you awestruck by the beauty and complexity of his compositions.

Johann Sebastian Bach
For many musicians he is “the Alpha and Omega of all music” (Max Reger). Except for operas, Bach composed masterpieces for every ensemble and genre of his age. His catalogue of works contains almost 1,100 entries, including the great Passions of St. Matthew and St. Johan, the Goldberg Variations, the Brandenburg Concerti, or hundreds of singular cantatas. As organist in Muhlhausen and Weimar he creates primarily organ compositions, concerti, and works of chamber music. Later, as music director in Köthen and for the decades he serves as cantor in Leipzig, he composes chiefly sacred vocal compositions and keyboard works. His later, contrapuntally complex compositions exert an enormous influence on the compositional styles and practices of later generations.
