Drawing on music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, the collection brings together works by composers including Diego Ortiz, Girolamo Frescobaldi, Tobias Hume, Louis Couperin, Carl Friedrich Abel, Marin Marais, Georg Philipp Telemann and George Frideric Handel, alongside traditional and anonymous works.

The repertoire provides developing viol players with a varied introduction to historical solo literature, including grounds, divisions, dances and instrumental works drawn from important early-music sources.
