Score & Piano Accompaniment Part

Flautist and pedagogue Marcel Moyse'sĀ Tone Development Through InterpretationĀ collects 90 melodic lines of instructional value for the performer, organised according to register, dynamics, and other musical characteristics. An essential tool for students of the flute, but useful for players of any wind instrument, this anthology of excerpts from songs, operas, and the orchestral repertoire arms a performer with the practice tools to confront any interpretational challenge using the appropriate playing technique.

As a supplement, the volume includes piano accompaniments for nine of the more substantial excerpts. Sought after by flautists around the globe, the original edition of Tone Development Through Interpretation is now available worldwide through Edition Peters in association with McGinnis Marx. 80 pages.Ā Publication Date:Ā 10/02/2023

Who Was Marcel Moyes?

Marcel Moyse (1889ā€“1984) was a French flutist and one of the most influential flute teachers of the 20th century. Born in St. Amour, France, he studied at the Paris Conservatoire and later became a member of several orchestras, including the Paris OpĆ©ra. His playing style was characterized by a warm, singing tone and impeccable technique, qualities that became the standard for flute playing for generations to come.

Moyse taught at conservatories and music schools in various parts of Europe and the United States, including the New England Conservatory in Boston and the Marlboro Music School in Vermont. Some of his students went on to become significant musicians and educators in their own right, spreading his pedagogical influence worldwide.

He authored a number of instructional books for the flute that are still widely used today. These works cover aspects such as tone development, articulation, and technique, and they remain staple resources in flute pedagogy.

Marcel Moyse's influence as both a performer and a teacher has had a lasting impact on the world of flute playing, setting standards that continue to influence the pedagogy and performance of the instrument.
