Barnes & Mullins BM650 Salvino Mandolin

Favoured for Bluegrass Mandolin & Considered to have more 'cut-through' in an Ensemble Situation

The Barnes & Mullins BM650 Salvino Mandolin is a classic F-style scroll top mandolin that bears the name of a recently discovered "Salvino" model from the early 20th century. It is highly favored for bluegrass mandolin playing and is known for its exceptional "cut-through" quality when used in ensemble situations.

Crafted with a dark stained solid mahogany top and corresponding dark stained solid maple back and sides, the Salvino mandolin produces a rich and warm tone with a remarkable sense of focus and clarity. Its tonal qualities make it an excellent choice for bluegrass musicians who need their mandolin to stand out in a group setting.

This mandolin features an ovangkol neck and fingerboard, nickel hardware, and an adjustable ebony bridge. Whether you're a beginner discovering the joys of playing the mandolin for the first time or an experienced player looking to add a high-quality F-style mandolin to your collection, the Salvino is a perfect choice. Its craftsmanship and tonal characteristics make it suitable for a wide range of musical applications.

Why Should I Buy an F-Style Mandolin?

Commonly played by professional mandolin players, F-style mandolins feature an upper body scroll and scrolled headstock – making them aesthetically distinctive from A-style mandolins. Their more elaborate body and headstock design naturally uses more tonewood materials and requires a greater level of craftmanship.

There is little discernible difference in the sound produced compared to A-style mandolins. However, F-style mandolins are ever so slightly more resonant due to their larger body chamber and tonewood area are historically favoured for bluegrass music, as they are considered to have more 'cut-through' in an ensemble situation.
